Halloween is a magical time for kids, filled with costumes, candy and lots of fun. When I was a kid, I never had the pleasure of trick-or-treating, but we always had a Halloween party at school. These are some of my most enjoyable and lasting memories associated with this time. But, of course, a party wouldn’t be complete without some delicious, spooky food, right?
#1. Mummy Hot Dog
Let’s start with the most amazing, delicious and easy to prepare recipe – Mummy Hot Dogs. The legend, the icon, the holy grail of any Halloween party! I don’t know who invented this appetizer, but this person must be a genius.
– 1 bag of rolled dough (you can make it yourself);
– One package of sausages;
– Mustard, olives, black peppercorns, or ketchup for the eyes (anything you like)
You can certainly make your own dough, but a quicker route is to simply buy a package of dough rolled into a crescent shape or something similar. So, start by preheating the oven (according to the dough instructions). When the oven is hot, cut the dough into strips – these will serve as impromptu dressings.
Now it’s time to wrap the mummies: take the sausages or sausages and carefully place the strips of dough around them. Don’t forget to leave a small gap, called the “face” open. Once it cools down a bit, you can get creative and decorate the mummy’s eyes using a couple of drops of mustard or ketchup.
#2. Scary spider web retreat
Creamy, spicy, and smooth: these are the three main rules for successful dipping! What about the Halloween version? Then you’ll also need to make it scary!
– 1 package of cream cheese, softened
– 1 can of chickpeas
– 1 cup grated smoked or cheddar cheese
– Sour cream, black olives, paprika, sauce, and black pepper (your choice)
– Tortilla chips or vegetable sticks for dipping
#3. Ghostly banana pops
Here are my favorites, I love cooking these bananas on a hot weekend (sans the eyes, of course). Chilled bananas covered in white chocolate are a simple, fun, and (relatively) healthy option for a Halloween party. They’re quick to make, and kids will love helping decorate them.
– Fresh peeled banana (it should be pale, not green)
– White chocolate or melted candy
– Small chocolate pieces, sprinkles
– Popsicle sticks or wooden skewers
The cooking process is very interesting, so invite your children to help you! Have them carefully stick the popsicles onto the flat piece of banana. Then arrange the new pops on a sheet of parchment paper and place them in the refrigerator (30 minutes should do). The banana ghosts should be completely firm, so we can easily decorate them later.
While the bananas are cooling, place the white chocolate or candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 30-second batches, stirring well after each one, until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth. Dip each piece in the melted white chocolate, rotating to cover the entire surface. Immediately press two small pieces of chocolate onto the top half of each banana to create the ghost’s eyes. Place the pops back on the parchment paper and return them to the refrigerator.
#4. Witch drink punch
No party is complete without a festive drink, am I right? Let’s prepare a delicious, sweet and juicy Witch’s Brew, made up of fruit juice, soda and sprinkled with jelly worms. The best part is that you can customize it endlessly, creating different versions for kids and adults.
– 1 bottle of chilled lemon or ginger soda
– 1 can of chilled pineapple, cranberry or orange juice
– 1 bottle of green fruit juice
– Gummy worms, jelly eyes, and ice cubes shaped like something magical
In a large bowl, combine green fruit juice, pineapple juice and cooled soda. Stir gently to mix the ingredients. Place a handful of gummy worms or spiders to float in the “drink.”
#5. Spooky cranberry fruit salad
A simple and healthy dessert option, this cranberry salad is a lively, fresh dish that gets a festive boost with a few well-placed gummy bugs.
– A mix of your favorite fruits (red and white work best: cherries, white strawberries, lychees, blackberries, etc…)
-Gummy worms, gummy spiders, or other gummy insects for decoration
– Yogurt or sweet cranberries
Cut the fruit into small pieces and arrange them beautifully on a plate. To keep up the spooky look, use a watermelon ball to create watermelon “eyeballs” or use peeled lychees (they look just like eyes!). Combine all fruits in a large serving bowl, garnish with worms, and add toppings and yogurt just before serving.
#6. Mini Hamburger Monster
Cute, small and very tasty, these fun monster-themed hamburgers will live rent-free in hearts. Easy to cook and eat, don’t forget to decorate it with “fangs and eyes” to add a Halloween atmosphere.
– Minced meat
– 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
– Garlic powder, onion, salt, pepper
-Sliding cakes
– Cheddar or American cheese, cut into quarters
– Lettuce, ketchup, and mustard, for serving
Fry small patties on both sides. When done, add some cheese on top until it melts. Toast the slider buns slightly if you wish. Place a piece of shredded lettuce in the bottom half of each bun. Top with cooked patty. ADD THE MONSTER FACE: Now for the fun part! Add “eyes” to the top cake using sliced black olives or cucumbers. For the “fangs,” carefully stick two small slices or triangular pieces of cheese into the bottom of the topper, so that it looks like it’s peeking out from under the pie.
#7. Chocolate bat bites
Finally, let’s add here another no-bake Halloween treat for the whole family! This time, the bite-sized chocolate bars will be the perfect last-minute addition to your party.
– Chocolate biscuits
– 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
– 1 bag of melted candy (chocolate or dark cocoa flavour)
– Small pretzel swings
– Candy eyeballs
Crush some chocolate chip cookies in a bowl, and mix with the softened cream cheese until well combined. Shape the mixture into small equal balls and arrange them on a baking tray covered with parchment paper. Place in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes until firm. While the balls are cooling, break the remaining biscuits in half to create “wings” for your bats.
Melt candy according to package instructions. Take a cooled ball and dip it in the melted chocolate until it is completely covered. While the chocolate is still wet, press two Oreo “wings” onto either side of the ball. To give bat eyes, quickly add two candy eyeballs to the front. Return the finished bats to the baking tray and place them in the refrigerator until the chocolate hardens.
conclusion…
With these seven spooky recipes, you can transform your kitchen into a creative, delicious, and a little weird wonderland. Whether you’re a baking newbie or a seasoned chef, these kid-friendly treats are the perfect way to add a little extra fun to your Halloween celebrations. So, grab your apron, invite the kids, gather the whole family, and get ready to make some unforgettable memories!
