I thought the Nano Banana was my perfect partner in the renovation process, but then I took a closer look

Nano Banana is an AI tool from Google Gemini that either creates photos or edits pre-existing ones. After its launch in August 2025, Nano Banana took the world by storm, giving rise to several social media trends using the AI tool.
The main thing that sets Nano Banana apart from alternative AI-powered image generators like ChatGPT and Copilot, is the fact that you can generate approximately 100 images per day per user, which is much higher than other options.
Other than just editing photos for a social media prank as was apparently the case with the majority of users, I wanted to actually test the Nano Banana and see how useful it is.
My bathroom has been needing a makeover for a while now. It’s a bit outdated and doesn’t suit my style. I prefer something light, airy and breezy, but I don’t really know where to start. Of course I pin a lot of inspiration photos on Pinterest, but it’s hard to envision what my actual bathroom would look like with these types of patterns.
I asked Nano Banana to freshen up my bathroom using the prompt below.
Renovate my bathroom, but don’t move the toilet or window. I want it to be bright and airy with some storage space and greenery.
I know that during a bathroom renovation, I won’t be able to move the toilet or the window. The rest of the bathroom is pretty much fair game. So I was sure to include this in the prompt so Nano Banana would know it shouldn’t do this.
I’ve uploaded two separate photos of different angles of my bathroom along with the vector above. Despite her explanation not to move the window, Nano Banana decided to place a huge mirror in front of her.
No matter how many times I adjusted the prompt or asked the Nano Banana again not to move the window, I was met with the same result. While he was able to record the smaller window as such, he apparently was unable to record the rest of the window and thus thought it was part of the wall and replaced it with a mirror.
Aside from this window issue, I also felt that the “renovation” was not up to what I expected. He practically kept my bathroom identical to what it actually looked like and recolored some existing features, like the floors and walls.
Even though I know the floors and walls are a major part of the renovation, every other element in the bathroom remained exactly the same. This was a bit disappointing, but again, it points to the lack of creativity that can come from AI.
I know that if I had had a more specific prompt to supply the Nano Banana, it would have done a better job. But the whole point of asking the AI to renovate my bathroom was that I wanted it to come up with ideas for me.

Meeting the same pigeon in white instead of brown was just a huge disappointment for me. Didn’t move anything. It didn’t even control the units I owned. All I did was recolor everything. I even identified greenery in the vector and met only one plant.
The only real addition here is the mirror in front of the window which I asked them not to replace. How disappointing.
While I asked Nano Banana to renovate my bathroom for me, it was great for me to imagine what my bathroom might look like in a different color scheme, and while on the surface it looked great, it didn’t really meet my full expectations.
I think for now I’ll stick to my Pinterest board and have the professionals come in and design my bathroom renovation.
