During the Wednesday, October 29, episode of iHeartRadioMoan downpodcast, Kramer, 41, invited the daughter of her alleged attacker to have an open and honest conversation about their experiences.
“I know it’s my story, but it’s your story too, and I want to apologize,” Kramer said with a woman identified as Brittany Qualls. “It must be difficult for someone you don’t know to talk about someone who is your father, so I apologize if this is a challenging thing for you to deal with.”
the One Tree Hill The alum continued, “I don’t know what it’s like to have someone talk about someone… you’ve never met me before, you know, and like someone you’ve never met before, too.”
Although Kramer did not reveal the name of her attacker in the episode, she has previously spoken about the alleged domestic violence she experienced during her first marriage to her husband. Michael Gambino.
“One minute he’ll be cute and everyone will love him,” Kramer recalled on her podcast. “My parents loved him, which made me think I was the crazy one…he would go from cute to evil in a matter of moments.”
Kramer married Gambino during a wedding in Las Vegas in 2004 when she was 19 years old.
Gambino was convicted one year later of attempted murder and served five years in prison. Although he was released on parole, he died by suicide in 2012.
In her conversation with Kramer, Qualls explained that an apology from the “Why Do You Want” singer was “absolutely not needed.”
“At the end of the day, that person was my father,” she said. “Even though I didn’t know him, and I knew all the bad things, I guess you hope there’s some good in him, but you know there isn’t. I guess I’ve always been optimistic that someone will say something good. I’ve learned to be OK with that.”
Qualls said she first became aware of her father’s behavior when she took up a case the people magazine and see his mugshot.
“It’s definitely not something you would think would be out in public or anything,” Qualls said. “I think when you first heard it, you said, ‘No, that’s not my father,’ and then when you heard more from others, it was a little bit heavy on you because you’re going through the reasons.”
With the help of therapy, Qualls said she was able to process a lot of difficult information and live a full life.
“I think I am not him, and his actions are not me,” she declared. “At the end of the day, I am who I make myself out to be, and everything he did is not who I am.”
As for Kramer, he is currently married Alan Russell -She is grateful for the opportunity to connect with Qualls.
“I just want to say that you are the most beautiful piece of him,” she said. “You’re beautiful. … I really appreciate you coming out and reaching out and being persistent enough to put the pieces together for you. I think that says a lot about you and who you are.”
