Gremlins is an almost perfect franchise that made the world fall in love with its iconic movie monsters. Arguably the only thing wrong with… Gremlins It’s that we’ve only gotten two flawless films and haven’t had any new on-screen adventures with these little horrors since 1990.
If you want to fill that Gizmo-like hole in your heart, I have good news: you can now stream Creatures (The 1986 spiritual sequel to Gremlins) for free on Tubi.
Welcome to Earth

hypothesis Creatures is that toothy alien criminals escape from prison and head to Earth to cool off their mysterious heels. There, they terrorize the countryside while trying to evade alien bounty hunters who have come to return the creatures to the space prison. Unless the hapless humans can figure out how to return these monsters to the stars, the entire planet may be caught up in a nasty war of the worlds.
Cast The creatures surprisingly good, including Dee Wallace (known as ET extraterrestrial) as a mother trying to keep her family safe from alien visitors who want to wreak havoc. Meanwhile, Emmett Walsh (famous for… Blade Runner) plays a local sheriff who suddenly has to deal with violent criminals from another planet.

Even more surprising is the impossibly young Billy Zane (known as… Titanic) plays a guy who just wants to spend time with his girlfriend, but has to deal with crazy creatures who are ready to give new meaning to the term “face-sucking.”
A bite to remember

As great as the cast is (and we get some very strong performances, especially from veteran actors), the real stars of this film are the titular creatures. It has a great design (it’s the perfect balance between creepy and silly) and is very expressive, which is great for anyone Gremlins Fans who want to see more little monsters create chaos.
Throw in some memorable kills at the hands of these alien invaders, and you have a terrible little movie of your own never We will forget.

while Creatures While it wasn’t a critical smash (more on that soon), it proved relatively successful when these horrific aliens landed at the box office. For a budget of just $3 million, the film grossed a whopping $13.2 million at the box office.
This was enough brutal moolah to start the franchise. We later got four series (of varying quality) plus a web series to reboot Bonkers.
Critics and creatures don’t mix

when Creatures came out, film critics were decidedly mixed. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a score of 52 percent, but critics’ main complaint was that the titular creatures weren’t really scary. Other than that, they give the film props for having a strong cast and a satisfying screwball tone.
To me, this reveals the simple truth that critics didn’t really know What They wanted this terrible creature feature. After all, the film’s comedic tone is largely due to the creatures being generally used (like Gremlins before them) to laugh even when (or perhaps especially when) they kill their victims.

If you want a serious horror movie with real scares and buckets of gore, you should watch it horrifying. If you want to see well-designed monsters wreaking ridiculous havoc on dystopian cities, Creatures He has exactly what you are looking for.
Low-key horror at its best

Additionally, while the sequels are a mixed bag, this is a first Creatures The film deserves full credit for its delightfully chaotic and unexpected script. From the first creative kill to the last minute shenanigans of the bounty hunters, this movie never does exactly what you expect. This is perhaps the rarest film of all time: a B-movie fest that nonetheless feels fresh and original at every turn.

Would you agree to that? Creatures Is it a fun spiritual sequel to Gremlins, or do you want to send this creepy little movie into space? The only way to find out is to pull up Tubi and stream this old creature feature yourself. Fair warning: by the time the credits roll, you may want nothing more than to curl up in a comfy Critter Ball and watch the entire series!
