American Eagle Outfitters Stock Price Today: Aerie Sales Boost AEO

It’s been less than five months since Sidney Sweeney’s controversial American Eagle campaign, which led to accusations ranging from ignorance to Nazi propaganda.

On an earnings call, Jennifer Foyle, president and executive creative director of American Eagle and Aerie, cited a “resurgence in intimacy” and “strength” across all of the brand’s offerings as key to Aerie’s success.

Foyle added that the brand has seen an “acceleration in demand” since the spring.

In October, Aerie made an anti-AI pledgeand promised not to use technology to create bodies or people in its ads, while remaining “100% real.”

AEO raised its guidance for the fourth quarter, with CEO Jay Schottenstein saying the company had a “record-breaking Thanksgiving weekend led by accelerating demand across brands and channels and underscored by outstanding growth at Aerie and Offline.”

Offline is a sportswear brand opened by American Eagle in 2020

The company now expects operating income to reach $155 to $160 million for the fourth quarter, up from $125 to $130 million, and an 8% to 9% increase in comparable sales. Operating income guidance for the fiscal year also rose, jumping from between $255 million and $265 million to $303 million to $308 million.

Investors responded happily to this news. American Eagle (NYSE:AEO) shares rose more than 14% in after-hours and pre-market trading on Wednesday. The stock is up more than 21% year to date
