Shohei Ohtani’s wife Mamiko Tanaka makes a rare appearance for the Dodgers

Freeman shared a photo showing Tanaka and Brianna Bateswife of the famous shortstop Mookie Betts. The three women can be seen smiling at the camera while wearing matching team jackets bearing their husbands’ numbers in bright red.
The second photo shared shows a large group of women (presumably the wives and/or partners of the entire team) wearing the same jackets.
Ohtani and his wife have been married since February 2024 — and the world championship winner isn’t the only athlete in the relationship. After her career at Waseda University, Tanaka played professional basketball for the Japan Basketball League’s Fujitsu Red Wave for four years before retiring in 2023.
News of their marriage was a surprise — even to the Dodgers — at the time. Ohtani shared the big life update via Instagram on February 29, 2024.
“The season is approaching, I am happy to announce to you that I have gotten married.” CNN reported Read a translation of his post. He continued: “We are still young and (there are) many things we do not know yet, but we hope that you will watch us warmly, and we hope that together (and as one dog) we will work together to support each other and move forward together with our fans.”
Ohtani went on to announce that the couple is expecting in December 2024. “I can’t wait for our little newbie to join our family soon!” Ohtani wrote via Instagram alongside a photo of the kids’ pink bodysuit and white shoes, an audio recording, and their dog Decoy. They welcomed their first child, a daughter, in April 2025.

I am so grateful for my loving wife who gave birth to our beautiful, healthy daughter,” he wrote on Instagram at the time. “To my daughter, thank you for making us very nervous and anxious parents. I would also like to thank the Dodgers organization, my teammates and the fans for their continued support and kind words of encouragement. I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to all the medical professionals and everyone who has dedicated their support to us, until this wonderful day.”
The baseball star was heavily pursued by multiple MLB teams after playing five seasons in Japan. He signed with the Los Angeles Angels in 2017, and announced his decision to leave the team for the Dodgers in December 2023 — a move that came with a 10-year, $700 million contract.
Ohtani thanked his former team via Instagram shortly after signing with the Dodgers.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all those involved in the Angels organization and fans who have supported me over the past six years, as well as to all those involved with each team that has been part of this negotiation process,” he wrote. “Especially for the Angels fans who have supported me through all the ups and downs, your support and encouragement means a lot to me. The six years I spent with the Angels will remain etched in my heart forever.”
After winning a World Series, Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Shohei Ohtani is ready to become a grand slam-worthy father. Ohtani, 30, and his wife, Mamiko Tanaka, revealed on Saturday, December 28, that they are expecting their first child. “I can’t wait for our little newbie to join our family soon,” Ohtani wrote on Instagram.
He added: “And to all Dodgers fans, I pledge to always do what is best for the team and to always continue to do everything in my power to be the best version of myself. Until the last day of my playing career, I want to continue striving forward not only for the Dodgers but for the world of baseball.”
